The Counsel of God’s Word

How vital and purposeful is the Word of God in our lives?  Are we to regard it as the voice of final authority everyday, in every circumstance, in every victory, in our high of highs and low of lows?  These were a few of the questions asked during our fellowship that made me stop, think and pray, drawing from the depths of my heart how I would answer.

“Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action), so that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.,”  (2 Timothy 3:16 AMPC)

As I have mentioned in my past blogs, I used to be a bookworm at some point in time.  I had such passionate drive because I was in search of answers, in search of truth.  Oh yes, it was long.  It took years.  In those times, I discovered different views, various opinions and contrasting information that made me more confused, if I may say it.  Nothing satisfied my longing soul until one day, I collided with the Truth and His Name is Jesus, Who is The Way, The Truth and The Life.  Praise the Lord.

Truly, when we seek, we find.  When we knock, we see doors open.  When we ask, we receive.

One thing that made my guards down during fellowship was the fact that we all were in sync with regards to the truth of His Word.  We may have had non-identical revelations and experiences, yet we were glued under one Name, JESUS, the Word made flesh.  Every word shared enlarged our revelation of Who Jesus is.

The Word breathes life into our lives as we meditate it day and night.  The Word is the law of success if we regurgitate it, think it, say it and do it.   I always get back to Joshua 1:8 every time I think of the word “success”.

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” (Joshua 1:8)

The Lord our God in His goodness gave us this Manual of Life, the Bible.  Oh how He longs for us to be blessed, fruitful, prosperous and successful.  You see, He takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servants.  He delights in our well-being.  He gave us this wonderful gift of free will whether we choose to walk in His ways or do things our way.  He loves us so much to never impose, but for us to choose Him and His ways by making known and revealing His Word to us of how He loves us, cares for us and watches over us every step of the way.  His goodness shown to us are invitations for us to taste and see more and more of Him as we unravel Who He truly is by His Word revealed to us by the Holy Spirit.

One of the answers that I shared that night was the thought of having His Word as the sword of my spirit, the most powerful offensive artillery He gave us.  But, we need to be reminded that this weapon we have cannot be spent until we own it.  The secret lies in meditating it day and night until it becomes a part of us.  We know if the word is embedded deeply within us is when we come to face an opposition and this word just flows out of our mouths from our hearts that bypasses our minds.  Without having time to think, it goes out like a polished arrow directed into the fiery darts of the enemy and splinters them.

The night before our company outing, I was meditating on this Word, “God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.  And since by His blood He did all this for us as sinners, HOW MUCH MORE will He do for us NOW that He has declared us NOT GUILTY.  What blessings He must have for us NOW that we are His friends and He is living within us.”  (Romans 5:9-10 TLB)

I paused and pondered as these verses were revealed to me.  I used to meditate the first part of how great is His love that Jesus died for us while we were still sinners.  How God put His love on the line for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to him. But when I continued reading, that was when something new and fresh bubbled up from deep within me as the Holy Spirit opened my eyes to see.  “HOW MUCH MORE will He do for us NOW that He has declared us NOT GUILTY.”  Hmmmm …. If He gave us His life while we were still sinners, do you think He will withhold anything else from us NOW that He made us worthy to receive all that He intended for us to have by the power of the Blood of the Lamb of God? Oh wow!  Thank You, Jesus.

Early the next morning, as I was preparing for our company outing, a very subtle negative thought came to my mind about a possibility of being in an accident.  Then, the “what ifs” came rushing!

Thanks be to God who is rich in mercy and abiding in love.  The Holy Spirit quickened me to answer those thoughts with His words in my mouth.  I spoke and declared with my authoritative voice IN JESUS NAME that no weapon formed shall prosper against us, that everything that rises against us in judgment I shall condemn.  I continued to confess, “NOW that I am declared NOT GUILTY, You, O Lord, will never withhold Your protection from us.  You promised to watch over us affectionately and watchfully.  You promised that I will spend my days in Your care and I am hidden in You.  You promised that I can run to You Who is my Strong Tower and be safe.  Your blood is the hedge of protection around us and it is You who will cause this day to be blessed and enjoyable the whole time in the Most Powerful Name of Jesus, Amen!

Immediately after those words of declarations were released, those negative thoughts vanished!  Praise the Lord!

His Word brings hope, a confident expectation and a joyful anticipation that something good is always in store for us.  He Who walks before us knows and is willing and able to make our mountains low and raise our valleys high, that we may have a highway before us, as we acknowledge Him in all our ways and speak His Name.  Oh the peace and divine comfort that is brought about by His revealed Word can never be compared to anything else.

Truly, I am one who is fully persuaded that when we meditate His Word day and night, we get to ponder every morsel of divine wisdom.  It is life to those who find them.  Life that is nothing-missing, nothing-broken, nothing-lacking.

The divine life that is in the Word permeates, affects and influences every fiber of our bodies infusing health and wholeness that pulverizes sickness and diseases, the intruders of the intended healthy life that Jesus won for us.

It is the anchor that keeps us still and know that our God is truly God.  The world is a bombardment of noise that if we are not founded on God’s Word, we tend to regard and listen to anyone’s voice that causes us to forever inquiring without arriving and recognizing the knowledge of truth that sets us free from fear.  We hold on to what has been taught and revealed to us as instructions on the way that we should go and never depart from it for they are spirit and life, living and powerful, sharper than a double-edged sword that when spoken it pierces even that of utmost resistance.

How we treat the Word of God determines how our lives will go.  The security and confidence that we have in His Word is found in the One Who is speaking, Who is faithful and true.  He Who promised watches His Word to perform it (Jeremiah 1:12).  “He is not a man that he should lie; neither the son of man that he should change his mind.  Has he said, and shall not do it? Or has he spoken and shall he not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19)

Mind you, of all the books that I have devoured, this is the only one where I have an intimate relationship with the Author, our Awesome Author of Life.  I speak to Him and He speaks to me. He personally guides me with His eye and speaks to me as my Good Shepherd.  He busies Himself with my every step because I abide in Him and His Word abides in me.  His ever-present Presence fills me with so much joy that is my strength. As my days go, so shall my strength be.  He is my Perfect Peace that keeps me still and above the chaos of this world for His word says “we are seated in Christ FAR ABOVE rulers, principalities, dominion and power”.  I am inaccessible to the wiles and fiery darts of the enemy as I dwell in the secret place of the Most High God, abiding in the shadow of our God Almighty Whose power no foe can come against.

“His Word is a lamp unto my feet and light unto my path (Psalm 119:105).”  He said to me once in which I am forever thankful for, “Your hope is not in finding light at the end of the tunnel.  Your hope is having Me as Your light while you are in the darkest part of the tunnel, for I am with you ALWAYS.”

When He speaks, oh how our hearts burn within us and yearn for more of Him. Let us keep planting the word into our hearts through meditation and watering it through mediation. Let us not grow weary in seeking Him and knowing Him by His Word for it renews our minds to conform to His and transforms our lives from strength to strength, from faith to faith, from glory to glory.

Constantly and consistently drawing near to Him and drawing nourishment from Him postures us to bear fruit in every season without fail that others may taste and see how good our God is.  Us, being His living epistles, becoming salt and light of the earth, are destined to KNOW JESUS and make HIM known.

“His Word is God’s way of making us complete, proficient, well prepared in every point, and thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us The Word made flesh, Your only begotten Son.  Thank You, Jesus, for revealing The Father to us by the way You lived Your life while on earth and by the Word that is forever made available for us to partake and meditate.  Thank You, Holy Spirit, for unveiling our eyes to see the truth of Who Jesus is as God’s love, grace, truth, personified. Amen!
