Jesus, the Master Seed, was purposefully and lovingly sown into the world out of God’s great love for humanity, with the unwavering expectation that countless more like Him would be brought forth. The Son of God, Jesus, was born to die so that you and I who believe and receive Him as our Lord and Savior may become sons and daughters of the Most High God, who are called to live a good life that He has prepared and paid for by His own life.
Jesus replied, “I must fall and die like a kernel of wheat that falls into the furrows of the earth. Unless I die I will be alone – a single seed. But my death will produce many new wheat kernels – a plentiful harvest of new lives.” (John 12:24 TLB)
Our redemption was not with corruptible things, like silver or gold, or from our aimless conduct received by tradition from our forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a Lamb without blemish and without spot. Thankfully, it is not by our works lest we boast. We have been saved by grace through faith.
Because we have been purified by the truth of the finished work of Jesus Christ and were given this delightful honor and privilege to be partakers of His divine nature, we, now, have been graced and empowered to be like Him through the Holy Spirit resident in us. God said, “Be holy, for I AM holy.” Left on our own, this is impossible to achieve. But, WITH GOD, all things are possible.
It is never our Heavenly Father’s intention to leave us the same way He found us. His Word says, “Old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new (2 Corinthians 5:17)”, and when we respond to Him and actively engage in what He is speaking and where He is leading us, we can be confident that we will be at the right place at the right time, doing the right thing with the right heart.
John 3:9 ESV says, No one born of God make a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God.” When we live under the freedom of God’s grace, sin is no longer our master (Romans 6:14). Being new creations in Christ, reborn and regenerated by the incorruptible seed through the word of God that lives and abides in us forever, new things are birthed. Now we choose to obey God because we love Him, which leads to righteous living.
With the indwelling of the Holy Spirit Who reveals His Word to us, our minds get progressively renewed, our perspective changes, our thoughts and hearts’ intents shift towards His perfect will. Along with these come an earnest pursuit to know Jesus Christ more by letting our roots grow deeper, drawing nourishment from the Word of the Lord that endures forever, and by the revelation that we receive from Him, we make Him known.
In this journey of discovering the beauty and holiness of our Lord Jesus Christ, testimonies of His love, His goodness, His mercy and His grace are spawned. Some may seem simple, but their impact is remarkably profound. A few could be downright jaw-dropping. Yet, irrespective of how it is manifested, it remains the testimony of Jesus. Our testimonies serve as potent seeds we can plant in the hearts of others, so they, too, can taste and see that the Lord is GOOD.
Do you know that no one in this world is seedless? Our testimonies are seeds. Our changed lives are seeds. Our words are seeds. Our good deeds are seeds. The time we invest in anything or anyone becomes a seed we plant. Even our obedience to what the Lord is leading us to do is a seed with a guaranteed harvest when we willingly follow Him.
Two years ago, I invited a couple of friends for lunch at my house which unexpectedly became a divine appointment. My words became so seasoned with all the good things that the Lord has done in my life. At one point, I was giving my testimonies of how the Lord amazingly provided for my international trips. Provision manifested in various ways, catching me off guard yet setting me in awe of His goodness each time. He is trustworthy, and His faithfulness is so great that it has fortified my heart.
Then, a few months ago, I invited them again for lunch. This time, one of them shared her God-story about her all expenses paid trip to Europe. Awesomely she was blessed with a business class roundtrip ticket. WoW! Glory to God! What amazed me was when she said, “I heard your testimonies of how God provided for you, and it reminded me that the Lord is just as able and willing to do the same for me. Your stories are so full of love for Him and His munificence that is humbling and exhilarating all at once.” All praise and glory to our King Jesus!
When I got home after our fellowship, I sat down and was quiet before the Lord. I asked Him, “wow … what an amazing testimony I’ve heard and witnessed today.” Then, He said (an unction from deep within), “Your testimony two years ago was a seed sown into her heart. When time came for her to take a trip, her faith was fueled by your testimony because that’s faith comes, by hearing (Romans 10:17). She believed that what happened to you can happen to her, too, and, it surely did.”
Indeed, the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy (Revelation 19:10) and the word testimony in Hebrew is ‘Aydooth’ which means do it again with the same power and authority.
There is the prophecy that is the testimony of the saved person regarding what Jesus has done for him or her. Our lives are to serve as diffusers of His love in action. As Jesus was the Master Seed sown, as He is so are in this world (1 John 4:17). Our lives are seeds after His own. We are to live in the place where the Lord our God moves us to where He directs us, for in that path, He has the person in mind who is in need of the truth of His manifested goodness, waiting for watering with our words.
My God-story may have taken two years to its fruition for a seed sown takes time to grow. It takes a seed, T–I–M–E, and then harvest. Mark 4:28 says, “First the blade (initial sign of life), then the ear (further development of it), after that the full corn in the ear (maturity)”, which describes the stages of plant growth and is a metaphor for spiritual development.
Was I expecting to hear my friend’s testimony? Nahhh! It genuinely caught me by surprise and has left me in amazement to this day. It continually stirs me up with courage and confidence to share more of His goodness every time I think of it.
“I will tell of Your goodness;
all day long I will speak of Your salvation,
though it is more than I can understand.” (Psalm 71:15 GNT)
As believers and followers of Jesus Christ, let us then be sowers of His goodness, for it is His goodness and kindness that can change the way we think about Him – of how full of love He is for us, and the way we think about who we are in Christ as the object of His love, affection and attention. His goodness gently guides our hearts away from every distraction, redirecting the course of our pursuit toward Him, and leading us to walk a new and holy path (Romans 2:4) that will give glory to His Holy Name.
Jesus is the Master Seed. As we receive Him and faithfully nurture The Seed through constant meditation on His Word, with humble and contrite hearts trembling in submission to His Sayings, a glorious harvest of blessings begins to unfold—blessings that return all glory, honor, and praise to Him.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for always including and involving us in Your divine plan to propagate the GOOD NEWS of how GOOD YOU ARE. Your love poured into our hearts by Your Spirit surely is uncontainable that it overflows to those around us even unknowingly yet effectively. Thank You, Jesus, for giving Your life for us, making us Your home and manifesting Yourself to and through us. As You have created us according to Your image and likeness, let our lives become seeds sown into this world, carrying and diffusing the fragrance of Your love. Thank You, Holy Spirit, for always revealing the truth to us, always guiding and teaching us in the way we should go and do that we may glorify the One True God and the One Whom He sent, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen!
