Although we are relational beings, we also have secrets hidden in our hearts that are only revealed to the ones closest to us. This doesn’t mean negative secrets but they are the ones that we treasure most in our hearts that it takes an intimate heart-to heart relationship for us to share them.
Our God is love. He loved us first and we responded to His love. Love is a two-way relationship and the fullness of it comes when it’s being validated and demonstrated.
Our Daddy God desires to reveal Himself to us. He wants us to KNOW HIM not just in our heads but in our hearts. He want us to KNOW HIM and not just KNOW ABOUT HIM.
I used to think that “knowing” and “knowing about” are the same but as I gracefully grow in age, I came to realize that they’re different.
TO KNOW ABOUT means knowing someone in an abstract and impersonal manner. It is like us knowing about a celebrity. We know about them but we don’t really know them.
To KNOW means KNOWING THROUGH PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE. It is experiencing what we have perceived, learned and understood. It is not to just to be intellectually informed about some abstract principle, but it is also to apprehend and experience the reality of that principle. It is not just the possession of information that we are pressing in but more so taking it deeper from head knowledge to heart knowledge. It is like knowing your spouse, you experiencing every bit of his/her being. You’ve personally encountered his/her love, kindness, gentleness and generosity to name a few.
Divine-human relationships are also expressed by this term. The Lord intimately knows you and I very well. He knows us individually “by name”. He knows the gifts and callings that He deposited in us. God’s intimate knowledge of our personal life, our daily activities, even our unuttered and unformed thoughts is beyond comprehension, thus it indeed takes abundance of grace for us to know this truth. He is Omniscient, our ALL-KNOWING God. There is nothing hidden in our lives that He knows nothing of and yet He presses in for us to know His heart how much He loves us.
Why did Jesus come? Because of God’s great love, He gave Jesus to us (John 3:16). God never wanted for anyone to perish but for all to come to eternal life. Eternal life begins the moment a person exercises faith in Christ for whoever believes in the Son has eternal life(John 3:36). “Now this is eternal life: that THEY KNOW YOU, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.” Here, Jesus equates “eternal life” with a knowledge of God and of the Son. There is no knowledge of God without the Son, for it is through the Son that the Father reveals Himself to the elect (John 17:6; 14:9).
He desires you and I to know His plans for us and thoughts of us that is to prosper us and never to harm us, to give us hope and an expected end (Jeremiah 29:11). Jesus also said, “I came that you may HAVE and ENJOY LIFE, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows] (John 10:10). He came to reveal the Father. He said, “Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father.” (John 14:19) He never wanted us to remain orphans but that we come to know God as our Father. He is the Father to the fatherless. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. (John 14:6)
Our Father desires to be experientially known by us. He longs to have a deep and intimate relationship with us. He also wants us to be His friend where exchange of hearts happen through Jesus Who is a Friend Who sticks closer than a brother. “No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.” (John 15:15).
Remember that in this world, many call Him GOD, but only those who KNOW JESUS have the privilege of calling Him FATHER. A Father doesn’t just create man for the sake of creation. His ultimate intention is to have an intimate relationship with His creation forever. It is a face to face and heart to heart encounter that once you’ve experienced it, it is eternal. NO ONE CAN TALK YOU OUT OF IT. It is so deep that no amount of challenges, opinions, accusations and lies of the enemy can separate you from Him Who NEVER leaves you nor even loosens His grip on you. That is eternal life. It is our journey in life of knowing practically through personal experience HIM, His love, His resurrection power, His guidance, His mercy, His faithfulness, His goodness, His peace, His presence, His power and the fullness of Who He is. We certainly need His grace for us to increase in our knowledge of Him for He is inexhaustible.
We all have different levels of knowledge and intimacy with Him at the same time He, Himself, reveals His secrets to us personally and uniquely. I cannot copy His ways with you nor you can with mine, but we all can learn from each other’s encounters. Our testimonies are spirits of prophecies. When we listen to one, it unveils our eyes to see that He, too, is walking with and talking to us similarly and simultaneously.
I have a very dear friend who happened to book a flight without second thoughts just because I shared with her about my upcoming trip. The next day, there was an invitation which was more important for us to go which is a week earlier than our scheduled flight and so we booked ourselves again for it. Once done, it brought her pressure thinking and knowing that on two successive weekends she’ll be away from her family. What else can she do but wait?
Almost a month later, she got a text from the airline that there has been changes on the flight schedules of her first booking. It caught her by surprise as it opened a way for her to cancel it without being charged. Lo and behold, she did cancel such trip and got a full refund. With Daddy God, it’s always “effortless”, “sweatless” and “costless”. I could unavoidably relate this to Jesus who did the works, sweat blood and paid for all the unmerited favors that you and I are experiencing.
Oh well, we may think that that was just mere coincidence. But I submit to you today that our Father indeed is so mindful of us that what breaks our hearts breaks His, too. He sees us with knowledge and compassion that He won’t just sit there doing nothing and leaving us alone. He promised that He will never leave us nor forsake us. He is more committed to our good than we are to ourselves. He DID, IS DOING and WILL DO something. He ALWAYS makes ways, but are we seeing it?
A simple encounter with our Daddy God’s goodness will always make an indelible, permanent, lasting, ingrained and unforgettable imprint in our hearts. These are personal experiences, His secrets, that make our hearts burn for MORE of Him. One touch of His presence in our lives changes the way we think, changes the way see, changes the way we feel, changes the way we expect, changes the way we believe, therefore it changes our whole being.
