We all know that God gives promises to His children and they are YES in Christ and we say AMEN to agree for His glory (2 Corinthians 1:20). He may move in unprecedented suddenlies in a miracle format of instancy or He may take us into a journey of discovering His ways in a very personal manner that will take us through a process to a flourishing finish. To Him, either way is a purposeful way.A MIRACLE is an effect or extraordinary event in the physical world that surpasses all known human or natural powers and is ascribed to a supernatural cause. It is such an effect or event manifesting or considered as a work of God.
The sovereignty move of God in this manner needs no explanation for it’s beyond comprehension. How He does it simply reflects WHO HE IS, that He can do whatever He pleases and however way He pleases towards what He has promised. The effect of this miracle, a fulfilled promised, in our own lives vary from one to the other. It’s influence to those around us goes the same way. It is diverse. It may cause an outright belief in the God of the impossible making things possible. Another may say, oh well it was just meant to happen.
A few years back, I had this desire to attend a conference in New Jersey. Left on my own, considering the cost of the airfare was next to impossible and that was yet exclusive of accommodation and pocket money. But God Who is the master of impossibilities moved. A divine appointed lunch was set with a friend and just by merely mentioning my wanting to go brought supernatural provision right after. It was phenomenal! Glory to God.
But what do we do when the promise that He has given isn’t speedily manifesting as we expect it to be? Hmmmm … Be strong and be of good courage, for He Who promised is faithful. He may take us into a longer route but the beauty of it lies on the truth that He is with us, in us, upon us and for us every step of the way. This is where He reveals His character, His ability and willingness, empowering us to keep moving forward.
Yes, we pray for the Holy Spirit’s crisp and clear leading where to go and what to do next, but when we hear Him speak, do we take that step? The challenge lies behind this question, “Did I really hear Him right?” “What if I heard wrong?” “What if it was just me who thought of it?” Well, well, well, if we put weight on these “what ifs”, it will simply get us nowhere.
That same year, I had an invitation, another trip to Los Angeles. Hmmm … because the Lord did it to me once, I knew He would do it again. This time, He had a different route for me. We always have to keep in mind that He never does things exactly the same way. He is always eager to have communion with us as we seek Him daily.
I opted to go away for a day into a far away beach to seek and inquire of Him. That day He gave me a promise from His word, “I have spent my strength for nothing at all. YET WHAT IS DUE ME IS IN THE LORD’S HAND, AND MY REWARD IS WITH MY GOD.” (Isaiah 49:4) When His revelatory glorious brilliance highlighted this verse, I knew He was up to something great. I came home, and the very next day, I got a partial (less than 1/4) amount needed for my fare. I undoubtedly rejoiced but towards the end of the day, I heard Him speak from deep within me, “That is not for you. You are to bless this couple with an all expenses paid trip to this beautiful beach.” Hmmmm … my response was, “Yes, Lord.”
Right away I emailed the couple. I knew then that if I wouldn’t do it immediately, somewhere, somehow I would have these “doubting” questions in my mind. Little did I know that it was their 25th wedding anniversary. Hallelujah! A couple of days later, I inquired again, “what’s next, Papa?” He prompted me to book my flight by faith with my funds back to zero. Straightaway, I did. Then, I waited and waited, worshiping while waiting, keeping my eyes on the Promise-Keeper lest worry and anxiety will have a grip on me. Six days later, I got a call from a friend asking about my fare and guess what she said? “Text me the full amount that was charged to your credit card when you booked your flight and I’ll issue you a check.” Praise the Lord.
I love what Heidi Baker said about hearing God’s voice. She simplified it that anyone can partake of it. “I don’t tell God what to do. I listen to Him and I try to align my heart with His heart and then I thank Him for what He is doing. I get into the word and soak in it and if what I heard goes against or sound contrary to the word, then I won’t move forward. If it agrees with His word, then I step out of the boat! I jump into the river.”
Jumping into the river is faith. Though we do not physically see anything yet but the eyes of our hearts are banked on the truth of what has been freshly spoken to us knowing that when He says it, SURELY He will do it!
“Now faith is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].” (Hebrews 11:1 AMPC)
Our journey in life doesn’t mean absence of challenges when we think we are on the right track, but our confidence lies on the truth that He is with us always. The Holy Spirit’s abiding power and presence in us is anointing us to do the next step. He will not take the step for us. He is our “HELPER” therefore He is there to HELP. He leads and He graces us to follow. That step is like taking a piece of a jigsaw puzzle. We have a finished image of God’s promise in our hearts yet the pieces are still to be discovered and unearthed. These pieces are cut and shaped differently and are to be fitted together to complete the picture, taking into consideration their forms and colors as key notes.
One of the secrets in journeying with God is to be congruent to His word. He gave us His word to shape and shade us in accordance to it. Our very next step always comes from Him Who directs and orders where we are supposed to be positioned at a given time. He leads us by the desires of our hearts and not by wrestling against our will.
Just like a puzzle’s piece, we twist and turn it until it fits perfectly as the Potter molds the clay to create a glorious pot. The twisting and turning denotes us having to be pliable and adaptable to change. We are to be HOT! Humble … Open … Teachable! There will always be resistance where new grounds are conquered and it lies primarily on the way we think. Our thought patterns have been grooved according to the way we are used to and to create a new path of righteousness comes in surrendering ourselves to His word as the Holy Spirit illumines the path set before us, Him becoming our Good Shepherd. Once our thoughts are established by renewing of our minds, then transformation emerges and our promise will start to take shape and eventually be completely materialized, His spoken word becoming flesh.
“For it is [not your strength, but it is] God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure.” Philippians 2:13 AMP)
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithfulness that You Who began a good work in us is faithful to finish it. Thank You, Jesus, for making it possible for us to believe in the impossible when You sent Your Spirit to abide in us forever. Thank You, Holy Spirit, for being the expressed exceeding greatness of power Who is all the while effectually at work in me, both to will and to do for Your own satisfaction, pleasure and delight. Amen!
