How powerful are our words?
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
And those who love it will eat its fruit.” (Proverbs 18:21)
Look at the The Passion Translation of this verse.
“Your words are so powerful that they will kill or give life,
and the talkative person will reap the consequences.” (Proverbs 18:21 TPT)
And the Message Paraphrase is equally forceful.
“Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.” (Proverbs 18:21 MSG)
How much more powerful it is when the declarations of our mouths are mixed with faith? Jesus powerfully demonstrated this truth when He cursed the fig tree and in twenty four hours it dried up to its roots which His disciples noticed.
“So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God”. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” (Mark 11:22-24)
One of the most rampant challenges that the world is facing today is sickness. More often than not, it strikes when its least expected. Left to live our lives apart from Jesus Christ Who is the HOPE of glory, we are limited within the realms of our physical senses and abilities most especially when the diagnosis has reached its uncontainable stage.
But God Who is rich in mercy and abounding in love, never leaves us hopeless. In Him we find redemptive solutions. But it takes for us to have the God-kind of faith to be able to tap into them. His thoughts and ways are higher yet He made them available for us in our fellowship with the Holy Spirit. With God, all things are possible and nothing is impossible to them who believe.
We have been summoned to pray and commune with God to know His thoughts, His Ways, His Will and in the case of sickness and disease, His Will for us is HEALING and WHOLENESS. Jesus is to be our model Who made prayer as a lifestyle and not just when there is a need. Prayer postures us with readiness and confidence on the truth of His Word that when a Goliath comes before us unexpectedly, the David in us will able to fight and defeat it in the name of Jesus.
Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the NAME of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands.” (1 Samuel 17:45-47)
I wonder how this world that we are in would look like when “the earth will be filled
with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea?” (Habakkuk 2:24) How would it look like when ALL sickness and disease are annihilated because we ALL believe in the finished work of Jesus Christ, that “we have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer we who live, but Christ lives in us; and the life which we now live in the flesh we live by faith in the Son of God, who loved us and gave Himself for us.” (Galatians 2:20). How would it look like when we, the sons of God, arise and take our rightful place to have dominion over the works of the enemy that includes sickness and disease?
When the Lord commanded us to do it, that means He already gave us ALL the means, power and authority to walk in it IN CHRIST ALONE, in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. It is so unlikely for Him to invite us into this sphere of dominion without giving us His full armor to subdue it. The verse in Genesis 1:28 proved it. The first part of the verse says He BLESSED us FIRST before He commanded us to take dominion. Hmmmm ….
“Then God BLESSED them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” (Genesis 1:28)
The commodity in the Kindgom of God is FAITH! Nothing will be accomplished in and of our own ability. Everything in the Kingdom of God is not by might nor by power, but by the Spirit of God and for us to walk in the Spirit, it requires FAITH. To believe that sickness and disease have been equally dealt with humanity’s sin at the Cross by the Blood of Jesus Christ, it takes FAITH. For us to have a confident expectation that the Word of God becomes the final authority in our lives, it takes FAITH.
Faith does not come from striving. It comes from resting. It comes from hearing and hearing by the Word of God. It comes from receiving the implanted word of God with meekness that is able to save our souls. It comes from a renewed thinking, totally and fully persuaded that the Word of God is the TRUTH and that no matter what comes against it, the TRUTH of His Word ALWAYS prevails. Yes, there will be oppositions to void the power of God’s Word let alone the whispers and lies of the enemy on God’s own willingness and ability to perform it, but as we set our face like flint, never budging but trusting fully in our Lord Jesus Christ with all of our hearts, leaning not on our own understanding, with faith and patience, we shall SEE the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
I had asthma attacks some years ago. It was normally triggered by allergies caused by oranges, dusts or warm temperature. Yes, I had an enhaler and a nebulizer within my reach to combat it.
When I came to know the truth that “BY THE STRIPES OF JESUS WE ARE HEALED.” (Isaiah 53:5), a shift happened in my thinking. I started to make declarations day in and day out, most especially when I had attacks. I pressed on to gain more knowledge and revelation in His Word on healing that would establish it more in my heart.
Before I knew it, I came across another powerful verse that persuaded me more.
Bless the Lord, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget not ALL His benefits:
Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals ALL your diseases … (Psalm 103:1-3)
Now, the declarations of my mouth birthed from the meditations of my heart became more steadfast and steady, for “By the mouth of two or three witnesses every word shall be established.” (2 Corinthians 13:1)
No longer was I saying … “oh I have asthma attacks again!” Instead, out of my mouth were His Word of TRUTH that Jesus Christ paid for ALL our sickness and disease and I have been invited to partake of this glorious inheritance of HEALING which is His children’s bread. I so believed in His Word when Jesus said, “The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” (John 6:63) I was declaring life, healing and wholeness even in the midst of medication, but this time my faith and trust have already been re-directed into the final redemptive solution of His Word Who was SENT TO HEAL ME. Jesus Christ Himself is the Word of God made flesh Who did it for me.
“He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.” (Psalm 107:20 NKJV). In The Passion Translation it says, “God spoke the words “Be healed,” and we were healed, delivered from death’s door!”
More and more revelation knowledge came and captured my mind until it became my “healing mindset”.
“That evening the people brought to him many who were demonized. And by Jesus only speaking a word of healing over them, they were totally set free from their torment, and everyone who was sick received their healing! In doing this, Jesus fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: He put upon Himself our weaknesses, and He carried away our diseases and MADE US WELL.” (Matthew 8:16-17)
In constancy and consistency of meditating these Words day and night, night and day, my heart was filled. And out of the abundance of my heart, my mouth effortlessly spoke and declared, “I am HEALED and WHOLE by the stripes of Jesus Christ.”
One fine day, suddenly I had this urge to eat oranges … hmmmm! My friends who knew my condition were concerned, but I went on to eat some anyway. Lo and behold, I was no longer affected by the smell nor the taste of them. As the truth of His Word became a part of me, it dislodged and silenced the lies of the enemy. The divine exchange where Jesus put upon Himself my sickness and carried away my disease manifested and made me well. Later on, I took the enhaler out from my bag and the nebulizer out from my house needing neither of them any longer. I knew Jesus totally healed me and made me whole! GLORY TO GOD!
Sometimes healing comes in an instant, as miracles do, in which I, too, had some wonderful glorious experiences. But there are times it is a process in which we learn how to walk in the light of His Word which eventually will be used for us to share this wonderful GOOD NEWS of having HOPE that there is nothing impossible with our God. A process is not less than a miracle itself.
Many may think that it is by inheritance that we get into these sicknesses, but the riches in glory of the inheritance of the saints in which Jesus Christ has qualified us to partake that includes HEALING and WHOLENESS, is much more superior than the one in which the world believes.
You and I have a CHOICE! And God said, “CHOOSE LIFE!”
“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore CHOOSE LIFE, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days …” (Deuteronomy 30:19-20)
You and I have a CHOICE! Choose to believe the Word of God and make it as the FINAL AUTHORITY in our lives by meditating it day and night and SEE it come to manifest before our very eyes.
“My son, give attention to MY WORDS;
Incline your ear to my sayings.
Do not let them depart from your eyes;
Keep them in the midst of your heart;
For they are life to those who find them,
And health to all their flesh.” (Proverbs 4:20-22)
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us Jesus Christ Who is the Word made flesh, Word made Spirit and Word made Life. Open my heart and eyes to receive Your only begotten Son, that I may experientially know what it means to live by faith and not by sight. Thank You, Jesus, for taking upon yourself my sin, sickness and disease, that I may have life and enjoy Your gift of righteousness, healing and wholeness. Today, I ask You, Jesus, to be my Lord and Savior. Live in me and walk with me. Thank You, Holy Spirit, for revealing to me the Truth and leading me to ALL truth of Who Jesus is and His finished work. Indeed, freedom is found in Christ alone. Amen!
