Many of us heard that the Word of God is our manual in life.  Does anyone need PEACE today?  Need direction?  Need healing?  Need provision?  Need hope?  Need a companion?  Need a Father?  Need a Savior?  Anything that we need, JESUS is the answer!  He is the Tree of Life.  He is the Word made flesh Who dwelt among us.  He came to reveal to us the heart of our Heavenly Father.  He was given to us to powerfully demonstrate the great love of our Daddy God.  He came that we may have and enjoy life and have it more abundantly.

The Word God doesn’t confine Him.  It reveals Him Who is Worthy.  He loves to be known by us and Whom we know, we trust.

The written word (“logos” in Greek) is good in which we are encouraged to read but when the Spirit of God breathes into it, He takes it further to become His freshly spoken word (“rhema” in Greek) that changes us.   The written word allows us to know about the greatness of Who our God is.  It is an impersonal way of knowing Him.  Rhema is when the written word of God becomes His whisper that kindles our very being into knowing Him in a very intimate and personal way which surpasses farther than knowing “about” Him.

One of the best illustrations to define both is in Psalm 103:7.  “He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel.”   In Exodus 33:11, it says, “The LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend.”  How awesome is that?  Before the fall, Adam and Eve had the honor and privilege to walk and talk with God in a cool of the day.  

If it was possible then, how much more now that we are in a better covenant with God established on better promises.   He chose and anointed a few in the Old Covenant, but with us, we ALL are privileged to partake of such invitation to walk and talk intimately with Him when one believes in Jesus Christ.

“But now Jesus, our High Priest, has been given a ministry that is far superior to the old priesthood, for he is the one who mediates for us a far better covenant with God, based on better promises.” (Hebrews 8:6 NLT)

Years ago, I started reading the Bible.  I was halfway through it but never understood anything.  Yes, I was amazed to come across bible stories that I heard of while growing up but when it came to unfamiliar words, I was at a dead end.  Shortly after, I stopped and set it aside and let it lie at my side table.

Since I was in that period of “searching” for answers here and I there, I was a regular customer of the bookstores.  I bought and collected so many inspirational books but I just couldn’t find the answers that I was looking for.  But on one fine designated day, I saw two of my colleagues who are of another faith.  I asked them if I could borrow their book but since they come from a different country, none of them brought it.

I believe that nothing just happens.  The Lord is so merciful to me that at that exact moment, I felt a tug from deep within me to start reading the Bible again.  I came home that day, locked myself in my bedroom and asked the Holy Spirit to make me understand lest I profit nothing.

Lo and behold, when I opened the very first page, Hallelujah, I understood what I used to not understand.  My heart leaped with joy and from then on I never stopped.  Jesus said,  “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh conveys no benefit [it is of no account]. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life [providing eternal life].” (John 6:63 AMP)

The Spirit-breathed word of God woos us to know Him in a very personal and intimate way, experiencing Who He is, what it means to be alive in Him.  I like what Bill Johnson said, “Faith explores what revelation reveals.”  When the Holy Spirit unveils our eyes to see beyond the letters in the book and makes them come so personally alive in us, it issues an invitation for us to become like Jesus, Who is the Word, not by might nor by power, but by the Spirit of God.

Hearing, meditating, speaking, chewing and regurgitating the revealed word of God changes the way we think. It changes our hearts.  It changes our options.  It changes our ways. It reveals our identity who we truly are IN CHRIST! It becomes our solid ground on which we stand that when storms pass, we know to Whom we belong to, whose power no foe can come against. It evokes how God sees us, how He approves of us, how He loves us, how He cares for us and how He is with us always that cause our hearts to rest on His spoken promises.

We are to abide in Him and  His word abiding in us just as a branch needs to be connected constantly and consistently to the vine to keep it alive and fruitful, otherwise when separated, it dries up and eventually dies.  It is our intimacy with Him that produces renewed thoughts that cause us to walk in His ways, empowering us to become who He called us to be and taking us to our destinies.

No wonder His word says, ““I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.  If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. (John 15:5-8)

We cannot live compartmentalized.  We are to live one with the Word.  It is His revealed word that takes us deeper in the knowledge of Him line upon live, precept upon precept, from faith to faith, from glory to glory.  We may not know the full extent of what His word can do in our lives for its power is inexhaustible, but as days go by, the more we cling to it, the more we walk in it.

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word.  Thank You for making Yourself known to us and sending Jesus to us Who is the Word made flesh.  Thank You, Jesus, for revealing to us the Father, how good He is and how He is fully committed to our good.  Thank You, Holy Spirit for opening our spiritual eyes, ears and hearts that we may comprehend the word way beyond its letters.  Teach us to live our lives on every word that comes out from the mouth of God, in Jesus’ Name!  Amen!
