Greater Things!

“I assure you and most solemnly say to you, anyone who believes in Me [as Savior] will also do the things that I do; and he will do even GREATER THINGS than these [in extent and outreach], because I am going to the Father.   And I will do whatever you ask in My name [as My representative], this I will do, so that the Father may be glorified and celebrated in the Son.  If you ask Me anything in My name [as My representative], I will do it.” (John 14:12-14 AMP)

The miracles, signs and wonders that were in the account of Jesus were so numerous and unique, which if they were recorded one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written (John 21:25).  They were not just countless but each one is incomprehensibly and distinctively great and powerful.  This is JESUS!

But, how about you and I who are called to RE-PRESENT Him, who are chosen and anointed by Him to host the Holy Spirit?  Can you imagine the same exceeding greatness and all surpassing power that raised Jesus from the dead and made Him sit at the right hand of the Father is IN us?  What manner of life are we called to live when we become conscious and aware of Who lives inside of us?  What kind of invitation is this that Jesus said, “ANYONE who BELIEVES in Me [as Savior] WILL ALSO DO the things that I do; and he will do even GREATER THINGS!” (John 14:12)?

If you look at the few words before this, He says, “I ASSURE you and most solemnly say to you!”  It is a secured, sealed, confirmed and guaranteed promise to believers!  Every time I think about these things, I always wonder what are these GREATER THINGS?  Jesus already modeled AWESOME and MIGHTY deeds, but greater things?

Much more to this is that the only qualification is FAITH in Him. ANYONE who BELIEVES in Jesus!  What grace has made available, faith partakes what is on the table!

I have always been a “declarer” of this verse, “With God nothing will be impossible.” (Luke 1:37)   I believe ALL believers do so.  But when I sought the Lord, He opened my eyes to see something powerful in this verse.

Before this was spoken by angel Gabriel to Mary, there was a message delivered that was beyond comprehension.

“30 Then the angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”

34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”

35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing will be impossible.” (Luke 1:30-37)

One day when I was meditating randomly on the word of God and listened to some teachings, I happened to come across one that taught and explained verse 37, “For with God nothing will be impossible.”

NOTHING = NO THING (“thing” means “RHEMA”, the freshly spoken word of God) WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE (without ability)

“No freshly spoken word of God will ever come to you that does not contain its own ability to perform itself.”  – Jack Taylor

It all boils down to … “WHAT IS GOD SPEAKING TO US?  The Lord spoke to Mary, through angel Gabriel and when she received the freshly spoken word of God by saying, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord!  Let it be to me according to your word. (Luke 1:38), she just sealed and secured herself into the guaranteed promise that she will be the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ.

When we hear what is spoken to us and receive it by faith, the incorruptible seed of His word now gets implanted into our hearts and is set to perform in its own ability in and through us.

“These are the ones sown on GOOD GROUND, those who HEAR the word, ACCEPT it, and BEAR FRUIT: some thirty fold, some sixty, and some a hundred.” (Mark 4:20)

Truly when we humbly accept the implanted word of God in our hearts, it has the power to save our souls (James 1:21).  It has the power to renew our minds, align our hearts into the unforced rhythm of His grace and our wills get enthralled in His love.   It has the power to transform our lives from glory to glory as we partake the very nature of God that allows us to reflect Him here on earth. He watches over His word to perform it (Jeremiah 1:12).  Our part is to sit at Jesus’ feet and hear Him speak, meditate on what we’ve heard until such word gets rooted and grounded in us, letting nothing snatch it away from us, guarding our hearts with all diligence for out of it flows issues of our lives.

What He speaks, we believe and receive.  What we believe and receive, we ask Him to do the impossible in and through us.  For He says, “And I will do whatever you ask in My name [as My representative], this I will do, so that the Father may be glorified and celebrated in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name [as My representative], I will do it. (John 14:13-14)

We always keep in mind that His thoughts and ways are higher than ours.  What He speaks and how He does it, only He knows.  We only need to have an open heart when we heed His voice for He says … “Behold I WILL DO A NEW THING!”  There may be times when what He speaks to us are things we have never heard nor seen before.  REJOICE!  He doesn’t do anything twice identical.  Even identical twins are not totally identical!  In humility, we believe and receive what has been spoken and it shall come to pass.

“Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill His promises to her!” (Luke 1:45 NIV)

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, thank You for choosing us to co-labor with you and subdue the earth Your way with Your spoken word with built-in power to perform itself.  Thank You, Jesus, that You are the Word who became flesh and dwelt among us.  It is indeed a perfect demonstration of how Your word manifests tangibly before our very eyes.  Thank You, Holy Spirit, for giving us the wisdom, knowledge and revelation of the word spoken and anointed us to walk in it, not by might nor by power but by Your indwelling presence and power in our lives.  Amen!
