The Word of God is more than a book.  It is our Manual for Life, or shall I say, IT IS OUR LIFE.  God authored it.  God gave it. God breathed into it.  It is His divine prescription for every need we face, offering wisdom, hope, guidance, courage, strength, health and wholeness.

The wonderful truth is that God’s Word has no expiration date and its promises remain faithful and true for they are anchored in His unchanging character and the steadfastness of His love for us.  It never loses its power, its potency, or its ability to transform us.  It is proficient to address our individual lives, custom-made and perfectly suited for each one of us.  Its relevance is timeless, and its life-giving power endures from generation to generation, proving that what God has spoken will forever stand.

^“Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action),

So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.”  (2 Timothy 3:16-17 AMPC)

To effectively navigate and fully receive the nourishment and life-giving benefits of God’s Word, we must read and meditate on it in partnership WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT.  The scripture reminds us that “the letter kills, but the Holy Spirit gives life” (2 Corinthians 3:6).  

In Christ, the indwelling of The Holy Spirit Who is our divine Teacher, illumines God’s truth and causes His Word to come alive in our hearts. He reveals its meaning personally and specifically, applying it to our unique circumstances and bringing lasting transformation from the inside out.

Apart from the Holy Spirit, the Bible can remain merely words printed on a page, only and  simply understood at an intellectual level. But when the Spirit breathes upon the Word, it becomes living and active, penetrating our hearts, renewing our minds, strengthening our faith, and conforming us to the image of Christ. As we read with yielded hearts, the Holy Spirit unveils the riches of God’s truth, turning His written Word into a living encounter with the Author Himself.

More than two decades ago, I intentionally committed myself to reading the Bible. I knew it was God’s Word, and I sincerely desired to know Him more. However, I was unaware that His Word is meant to be read and received through the ministry of the Holy Spirit. So, I approached the Scriptures primarily with my mind.

I was captivated by the accounts of miracles, signs, and wonders. I admired the lives of the great men and women of faith and marveled at God’s mighty works throughout history. Yet my reading remained largely intellectual. The stories inspired and fascinated me, but they did not go beyond my intellect with its purpose to penetrate my heart or produce lasting transformation. I was gaining information, but I was not experiencing revelation. I knew the words on the page, but I had not encountered the living voice of the Author behind them.

As a result, I stopped reading the Bible.  Believing that I needed something more practical and motivating, I turned instead to inspirational books, convinced they would help me grow and bring about the change I longed for. They certainly encouraged and inspired me for a time, but their impact was only temporary. I soon realized that while inspiration can uplift the emotions, it cannot transform the heart. I found myself inspired, but still unchanged.

Shortly after that, I sensed a very strong and unmistakable prompting deep within my spirit saying, “Your Bible is right on your bedside table.”  Hmmm … I paused for a moment and responded, “Lord, I am more than willing to read Your Word, but I cannot seem understand it with the depth I long for.  Please make me understand it.”  A minute later, I sensed another gentle prompting.  This time, I was inwardly led to invite the Holy Spirit to journey with me as I read God’s Word.  

That simple, sincere prayer became a turning point in my spiritual journey. I was no longer asking merely for knowledge; I was asking for revelation knowledge, a direct download from personally and intimately encountering Him. I was inviting the Author of the Scriptures Who is The Word Himself to become my Teacher and the Revealer of all truth.  From that moment on, my approach to reading the Bible began to change.  It is no longer as a duty to fulfill, but as a divine platform to personally encounter the living God Who delights in revealing Himself and His truth to those who seek Him with humble and teachable hearts.

God’s plans and purposes are revealed through His Word. It is there that He unveils His heart, His will, and His divine intentions for His own sons and daughters. Therefore, as those who have been created in His image and likeness and redeemed to live for His glory, we must purpose in our hearts to embrace the Word of His truth BY FAITH and make it the unchanging plumb line of our lives.

God’s Word must be the final authority over our thoughts, our decisions, our beliefs, and our actions. It stands above our feelings, our experiences, the opinions of others, and the ever-changing standards of the world.  His Word reminds us “not to be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:2)

When we choose to believe and obey His Word by faith, we align ourselves with His perfect will and position our lives to walk in His purposes.

You see, everything in our walk with God begins and continues by faith. We come to Him by faith. We receive from Him by faith. We read and meditate on His Word by faith. We recognize His voice, behold His truth, and respond to His leading by faith. Faith is the posture of a heart that trusts God beyond what the natural eyes can see and the natural mind can comprehend.

Oh how I love how faith is defined in Hebrews 11:1 (Amplified Classic).  “Now faith is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].”

The Scriptures declare, “Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6). Faith is the key that opens our hearts to God’s revelation. It positions us to receive what He desires to impart through His Word and by His Spirit.

Let us therefore continually anchor our hearts in the truth of God’s Word, allowing it to measure, correct, direct, instruct, train, discipline and establish every area of our lives. As we do, we will discover that His Word is not only our guide but also the sure foundation upon which we can confidently build our lives, knowing that His truth never changes and His purposes will always prevail.

“ The grass withers, the flower fades,
But the word of our God stands forever.”  (Isaiah 40:8)

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You, for being so mindful of us that You sent us Your Word and healed us, and delivered us from our destructions (Psalm 107:20).   Your Word is the lamp upon our feet and the light unto our path (Psalm 119:105).  It is the truth’s shining light that guides us in our choices and decisions as it renews our minds to take on Your thoughts from glory to glory. 

Thank You, Jesus, for You are the Word made flesh Who dwelt among us (John 1:14).  You are the perfect revelation of the Father, the living expression of God’s heart, and the embodiment of His truth.  In You, we see God’s Word not merely spoken, but lived out in perfect obedience, love, grace, and power.

Thank You, Holy Spirit, for You are the Revealer of all truth (John 16:13).  You are our Divine Teacher Who faithfully guides us into the depths of God’s Word and unveiling the unsearchable riches of the treasures hidden within it that we may walk with them and be transformed by them.  Amen!
