“Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.” John 14:23 NKJV
It is by grace through faith we make ourselves His home.
Faith is the doorway that we open, allow and welcome Jesus into our hearts as His home. We are the ones who make Him sit on the throne of our hearts and it is our choice to crown Him as the King and Lord of our lives.
I visited a good friend of mine who just bought a new house. She is still in the process of slowly but surely buying things that would perfectly fit every corner of it. Though the house is new and beautiful, it felt so empty. There is no real substance in it because no one is living in there yet. I suddenly told her, “this house will only be made complete when the perfect time will come with you living in it.”
Then I realized that our lives are akin to it. We may live with ease and comfort, with everything we want in a snap of a finger, but truly, apart from Him, it feels like an empty house. Unless you and I are inhabited by His presence, becoming His temples, we will always be in pursuit of something or someone to make us complete.
God created us according to His image and likeness, therefore as He IS love Who is so full of love, we, too, are to reflect Who He is. But a reflection only reflects the substance that is put in front of it. It is a production of an image given back by a reflecting surface, as that of a mirror. If nothing is placed before it, nothing is seen in it. As we grow more and more in the knowledge of Who He is, we grow more to be like Him.
Because of the fall in the garden of Eden, we were separated from Himself. Our spirits laid dormant and inactive. But God Who is rich in mercy and abounding in love KNEW why He created us. He KNEW that apart from Him we are nothing. He KNEW that there is only ONE WAY to save and rescue us. He gave us JESUS, Who is THE WAY, The Truth and The Life. He KNEW that only His kind of LOVE can fill and satisfy us like no other. He KNEW that we are to be His dwelling place on earth, filled and flooded with Himself, the only way for the whole earth to be filled with the knowledge of His glory as the waters cover the sea and His glory is His love and is expressed through love.
He KNEW that ONLY by the power of the Blood of the Lamb can wash us clean and make us remain clean, sanctified, purified and made holy for the Holy Spirit to dwell inside of us. In and of our own ability, it is an impossibility. But with HIM, all things are possible.
The Holy Spirit was given to us to abide in us forever. It is He Who pours the love of God in our hearts. While we were still sinners, Jesus died for us, and this is the greatest miracle one can ever have, us being reconciled and restored back into intimacy with Him. He KNEW that the only way for us to become His home is when we come to love Him back (John 14:23). Loving Him means us desiring Him more than anything or anyone else. He will never force Himself to live inside of us, but He will woo us into knowing how much He loves us and win us back by the power of such great love that is reckless, unfailing and irresistible. Yes, He initiated it all and He will continue in His pursuit of us until our will gets enthralled in His love. Indeed, it is Him loving us first that graces us to love Him back. (1 John 4:19)
Once He captures our hearts, welcoming Him to take His rightful place of reigning, the filling, arranging and rearranging begin. He will never impose on who He wants us to be, but His way is to make us desire the very thing He wants to do. His indwelling in us influences us with the way He thinks and moves. We get to sign up in the process. Nothing is instant. And in the process, we learn how to yield into His plans and purposes every step of the way. Our experiential knowledge of how much He loves us and His best interest for us enables us to submit and surrender into The Love-filled Potter’s Hand.
In the journey, we become rooted and grounded in His love. We come to know that what He is doing and where He is taking us is always from glory to glory. The more we discover and know Him, the more we love Him. The more we love Him, the more we allow Him to invade the areas of our lives that results in us becoming more like Him.
Where Jesus dwells as Lord and Savior, He takes ownership. He takes responsibility. He adds things that will make us better and subtracts what is unnecessary. He does it not just to make us look good as His home, but for people to encounter Him as His home, that’s you and me. Do you know that our open arms are His welcoming gesture into His home? Our love-quoted words become His welcoming voice. Whatever we do to the least of our brothers, we make Him at home. Our love for our neighbors which is an expressions of our love for Him makes Him feel at home. Him living inside of us shapes us to be lovers like Him. We are the love letters that show the living and loving Jesus!
Indeed, our adventure in His love takes us deeper in Him. His love is to be our firm foundation. The deeper the foundation, the higher we go! The higher we are, the more people sees us as He displays and showcases His love in and through us.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us beyond measure. Thank You for calling us by name and choosing us to be Your hands and feet in the earth that people will be touched by Your presence as You dwell inside of us. Jesus, thank You for You are the Word Who became flesh and dwelt among us, Who powerfully showed us what love looks like. Greater love has no one than this, that You laid down Your life for us, Your beloveds. Holy Spirit, thank You for revealing to us continuously what it means to be Your home, carrying in us and diffusing through us the glory of Your love for people to taste and see what GOOD, GOOD FATHER we have. Amen!
