“The generous soul will be made rich,
And he who waters will also be watered himself.” (Proverbs 11:25)
I was talking to someone dear to my heart recently and she shared with me one of the questions that she was asked during her job interview.
“What have done lately that you thought you had the initiative to do it?”
There she was in a bus terminal. She saw an elderly man who can barely walk assisted by his daughter. There was such a strong prompting in her heart to help and so she did. While she was assisting them, she was at the same time texting her mother what she was doing. Her mother, considering how cruel the world can be, warned her. Maybe it could be just another modus operandi and later on be robbed. But she continued to help anyway despite her mother’s warning until they got to a place where the duo intended to go. Surely the father and daughter were grateful for her help.
Hmmmm … Do you think their gratefulness were just limited to that? We may never know. But the word of God says that our generosity will cause the receiver to utter thanksgiving to God. “You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.” (2 Corinthians 9:11) And when the fragrance of thanksgiving raises up to the divine nostrils of our Loving Father, they enter in into His courts where He will make Himself known to them in a very special way.
“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.” (Psalm 100:4)
The extent of anyone’s good deed is limitless. For the receiver, a need may be met, but for the giver, it can go farther than one could ever comprehend. A good seed sown and grown will always yield a great harvest.
“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.” Proverbs 3:27
Understanding sometimes come when we have already done what we have done. When we come to know the One Who graced us to do what we were called to do at that certain time, it postures us to do MORE. We become co-laborers with Him to bring His Kingdom of heavenly love here on earth. You and I are vessels of His love.
He promised, “My presence will go with you and I will give you rest, I will give you success and I will see your journey to the end.”
It is never about us. It is all about Him expressing His glory and goodness in amd through us, diffusing the fragrance of WHO HE TRULY IS that the world will filled with the knowledge of His glory as the waters cover the sea.
“There is one who scatters, and yet increases all the more, and there is one who withholds what is justly due, and yet it results only in want. The generous man will be prosperous, and he who waters will himself be watered.” (Proverbs 11:24-25)
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You, for withholding nothing from us, not even Your Son Jesus, so we, too, will be enabled and empowered to be like you, withholding nothing good when it is in the power of our hands to do it. Truly we cannot give what we do not have. The fullness of Who You are expressed through us graces us the capacity to give in a greater measure. Thank You, Holy Spirit, for being the Treasure living inside of us Who is excellent and powerful in every way. You are the One Who magnifies the effect of a little good deed done by our hands and opens the hearts of those touched by Your presence through us. Amen!
