The world that we are in is full of voices that speak various opinions. There are millions and millions of books published that carry multiple insights. What do we do to be successful? What do we eat to be healthy, strong or lose weight? Where to invest to get rich? How to get out of depression? And an endless list more.
I, for one, was one of those whose face was focused on what book to read next. I had so many questions and I needed concrete answers desperately. I pushed and pressed on, but found nothing that could quench my thirsty heart.
But God Who is rich in mercy and abounding in love met my desperation. He heard my cry and one day touched my heart when I heard from deep within me, “Your Bible is at your bedside table.”
It wasn’t that I was not reading it. It was just that I did not understand even a bit of it. I was halfway through but I never benefited from it. But on that one designated moment when I heard His still small voice, I yielded and asked the Holy Spirit to open my eyes, my mind and my heart to understand the TRUTH of His Word, and yes, He did. He still does and He will always do. Now, nothing and no one can stop me from reading, meditating, declaring or even singing His Word. It was then when I temporarily stopped buying books. I knew had to be rooted and grounded on His Word. Once I have tasted and seen how good He is, I desired for MORE of Him. I became one-eyed in my journey with my pursuit in God and His Word. Glory to God!
Many times we question ourselves, who am I? Am I a child of God? Is it true that I am really a child of God? Or is it just wishful thinking? How will we know?
“FAITH comes by HEARING, and HEARING by the Word of God.” (Romans 10:17)
Real faith won’t just pop up anywhere. The growth of our confidence on who we are is founded on the Word of God. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6) If God is our Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ, then we are rest assured that we are His children.
“But those who embraced HIM and took hold of HIS name were given authority to become the children of God!” (John 1:12 TPT)
Just by these few verses alone, something happened to our identities. Be committed to what was spoken to us, in our minds and in our hearts until these incorruptible seed of God’s word be embedded and deeply rooted within us.
Faith does not work without a promise in the Word of God. When His Word says we are His children, that’s a promise. We believe that promise. We receive that promise. We declare that promise. And we walk experientially that promise. The enemy may come to steal, kill and destroy the promise of us being His children, but BE OF GOOD COURAGE and REJOICE! We consistently and constantly remind ourselves, that the Word of God is TRUE and the enemy is a LIAR!
Truly, “Bread alone will not satisfy, but true life is found in every word, which constantly goes forth from God’s mouth.” (Matthew 4:4 TPT)
When the Almighty, All-powerful, All-knowing, Ever-present God becomes our Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ, Who LOVES us beyond measure, we can no longer remain slaves to fear, for there is NO FEAR IN LOVE.
I remembered this song of Bethel Music, “No Longer Slaves”
You unravel me, with a melody
You surround me with a song
Of deliverance, from my enemies
Till all my fears have goneI’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of GodI’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of GodFrom my mothers womb
You have chosen me
Love has called my name
I’ve been born again, into a family
Your blood flows through my veinsI’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of GodI’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of GodI am surrounded
By the arms of the Father
I am surrounded
By songs of deliveranceWe’ve been liberated
From our bondage
We’re the sons and the daughters
Let us sing our freedom
