Abounding Love

“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight,  so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.”  Philippians 1:9-10 NIV

Love may just be a four-letter word but it is the most powerful force one could ever have. I believe it so because it is only in our awareness of being so loved by our Heavenly Father that our identity is secured and guaranteed with utmost confidence as sons and daughters of the Most High God.  When we come to have this revelation, it will anchor our hearts in the explosive reality, efficacy, potency, and the effectiveness of who we are in His eyes that changes the way we see ourselves and those around us.

At this age and time, we can no longer afford to be ignorant of the enemy’s schemes let alone be incognizant of his presence.  There is an enemy out there who steals, kills and destroys, BUT praise be to the Lord our God Who gave us His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, that we may HAVE and ENJOY life in abundance, to the full till it overflows.  Our GOOD Shepherd came, risked and laid down His own life for the sheep, it’s safety and security.

One morning, I was meditating and asking the Holy Spirit to reveal to me how to make His LOVE abound more and more in and through me.   How to display it in greater depth and measure was my question.

I have this routine of listening to teachings while driving to work.  At that particular morning, the topic was about how we are anointed day in and day out.  We are anointed 24/7.  Jesus, the Anointed One and His Anointing is IN us.  How then can we be separated from Him?  Therefore we cannot switch on and off anointing but what hinders us from walking in it is our own unawareness of it.  We are anointed inside for our sake and anointed upon for others.  Truly how ignorance costs us.  “People perish or destroyed for lack of knowledge, rejection of knowledge or even forgetful of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6).

Traffic was very bad that morning and cars and cabs were all getting haywire squeezing into lanes.  A cab which was out of the lane tried to press in behind me and yes it did hit my bumper.  I knew it because it shook my car.  Lo and behold, the love of God in me was abounding just as I asked Him at the onset of the day.  Yes, it was right for me to stop and check the damage but somehow when I thought of how it would aggravate the traffic that will cause more people to be late for work, I seemed to just let it go like water off a duck’s back.  It was a very unusual move but I felt peaceful about it.  One motorcycle driver stopped beside me to inform me that I was hit but I just nodded, smiled and responded, “I know!”

A few meters away was a curved driveway, the entrance to my office building.  I thought, maybe the driver will just follow me and see the damage and talk about it BUT on the contrary, he just drove away.  I looked to check his plate number and tried to remember it but after a few minutes, it faded away.

Surprisingly, as I parked, our building’s security guard walked toward me to inquire about what happened because someone reported to him immediately that I was hit.  It was funny to think that they all thought I wasn’t aware of the happening.  I absolutely was but I just chose to let go of it.  I checked my bumper and yes, it was scratched but I wasn’t bothered by it at all, all by the grace of God.

Philippians 1:9-10 (AMPC) “And this I pray, that your love may abound more and more [displaying itself in greater depth] in real knowledge and in practical insight,  so that you may LEARN TO RECOGNIZE AND TREASURE what is excellent [identifying the best, and distinguishing moral differences]…”    When I saw that the cab driver who didn’t even bother to stop, I thought  … there’s only ONE reason for him to “hit and run” and I recognized it quickly.  FEAR gripped him.  FEAR to face the truth!  FEAR to be caught to pay the damage.  That was actually the bottom line of it.  Taxi drivers out here don’t really make much.  Under the LAW, I would have imposed  that he should be apprehended for what he has done but because of GOD’S LOVE flowing in and flooding out, I was able to comprehend why he acted that way and compassion flowed out from me.  A few minutes later, I found myself releasing him from my heart and blessing him with words that he may never even hear but surely will touch his spirit because the Words of God are spirit and they give life.  More so, they are not limited to time and space.   Who knows, he, too, was praying that I would just let go of it because he needs his daily earnings for his family.   I may never know the full details of everything but GOD surely knows every iota of it.

I’m not saying that you do what I did, but all I’m sharing with you is that when we’re led by the Spirit of God, things that we never thought of doing, we do.   This is the reason why we SEEK FIRST the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto us (Matthew 6:33).  Nothing of and in Him is a formula.  He moves in ways beyond what we can think or imagine.   Come to think of it, the way the Lord led Moses to part the Red Sea was totally different from His way of parting the Jordan River through Joshua.  He could have done it the same way but God’s desire is MORE to deepen our love relationship with Him that in every way He gets to be a part of.

The fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ was borne in that incident.  It was effortless.  I even didn’t stop to think of what to do.  God’s grace just profusely flowed in and flooded out through me.  The umpire that made me confident that I did the right thing was that JOY and PEACE that surpassed all my understanding consumed me. It was awesome.

Being established in sonship is very powerful.  Orphans focus on SELF satisfaction. Sons have a different perspective.  When you know who you are, a son or a daughter of the most High God, to be “other-centered” is the norm.  You will find yourself making a difference for the benefit of someone else.  You’re too secure to be fighting for your own rights.  You ARE the righteousness of God in Christ that means you no longer do things to convince God or anyone else of you being right.  God made you righteous by the finished work of  Jesus Christ.  It is a GIFT and not by your works.  Your righteousness is forever linked to THE LOVE OF GOD.  When you let His love win through you, then you are right regardless of how it may look before your eyes.  By this, God is glorified.

“… filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God [so that His glory may be both revealed and recognized].  Philippians 1:11 AMP

God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us. RECEIVE the God-kind-of-LOVE that we may walk in it.  What flows in floods out.  It is not by might nor by power, but BY THE SPIRIT OF GOD!

“Owe nothing to anyone except to love and seek the best for one another; for he who [unselfishly] loves his neighbor has fulfilled the [essence of the] law [relating to one’s fellowman].” Romans 13:8 AMP
