What do we do to make our house a home? There may be millions of opinions that we can gather as each one has his own way of doing it. Its complexity comes with our individual desires and thoughtful choices. But in the midst of our distinct differences, it all boils down to “what do we value” in it? What means most to us marks its greatest potential of making it a home. It is a place where we can create things within that can meet our needs that expresses who we are. It is an inside-out way of perceiving things, just exactly like how our lives are to be lived. Jesus said, “Anyone who loves Me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and WE WILL COME TO THEM and MAKE OUR HOME WITH THEM.” John 14:23)
This subject was brought about because of the messages that I read in social medias about Mother’s Day. How everyone is appreciating the presence of mothers in our homes, that a house cannot be a home without her in it. How one cannot imagine her absence who is the “Superwoman” in our lives, the one who birthed us into existence and the multitasker of all times. Bravo Beautiful Mothers!!!!
In our own lives, how then can we make the temples and vessels that we are as THEIR HOME, the chosen home of the Godhead? One thing that is of most necessity is the art of receiving God’s love, Jesus, Who is Love Personified.
“For this is how much God loved the world—He gave His one and only, unique Son as a gift. So now everyone who believes in Him will never perish but experience everlasting life.” (John 3:16 TPT)
One of the powerful expressions of believing is receiving. When we believe how much God loves us, we receive His gift of love in the person of Jesus.
A gift is never completely a gift unless it is received, and once received, only then do we get to enjoy the benefit of it. I love the Mirriam-Webster’s definition of gift. It is something VOLUNTARILY TRANSFERRED by one person to another WITHOUT COMPENSATION. That means there is no price tag on it, therefore it cannot be paid for or bought at any cost.
We cannot earn nor work for the love of Christ. It is by God’s mercy, grace and unmerited favor that He made His love available to us simply because that is Who He is, He is love and He FIRST loved us.
The very moment we receive Jesus into our hearts, the breath of life is breathed into us. We become “born again”. It is the rebirthing of our spirits that were once separated from the Spirit of God because of the fall at the Garden of Eden. But God is rich in mercy and abounding in love that He thought of a powerful everlasting redemptive solution before the foundation of time. He knows that you and I belong to Him. He knows that He created a family of love that no one can ever separate us from Him and His love for us. He desires us to be constantly and consistently connected to Him just like a branch that can never be separated from the vine to preserve and sustain its life. And not just to be and stay alive, but to bear much fruit that those around us will taste and see His love flowing in and through us.
Receiving Him in our hearts makes our earthen vessels His home. It takes relationship for it to become one. It is the relationship between the Holy Spirit and our spirits. The authenticity and genuineness of our intimacy in spirit and in truth is a necessity. This is where our hearts get yielded into His amazing love that changes us. We are transformed because we are deeply loved by Him and this transformation is expressed in our obedience to the One Who knows it all. I believe it is in our obedience that makes Him at home is our hearts.
There may be times when our hearts resist His leading, but take heart … be of good cheer! It is just one aspect in our lives where we haven’t seen yet that particular situation in the light of His love. We are all a work in progress. He takes us from faith to faith, from strength to strength, from glory to glory. We take it one day at a time for each day He has something great in store for us to discover. There are treasures that are positioned for us to unravel and once discovered, we get invited to explore and experience. He doesn’t hide the treasures from us but He does it FOR us. He knows exactly when our hearts are ready to receive His promises without us being destroyed due to the awesomeness of it.
“It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings.” Proverbs 25:2)
You and I are kings in the Kingdom of God. Kings decree a thing and it shall be established for the light of God’s favor will shine on our ways. (Job 22:28 Amp) When we step out in faith to do what He has called us to do, then we become conduits of the Holy Spirit in His Kingdom. Truly, those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. (Romans 8:14) Open heavens are released when you and I co-labor with God, allowing the Holy Spirit to release the exceeding greatness of His power in and through us.
Our intimacy with Him is what makes these temples, our bodies, as Their Home. It is when our hearts become His citadel, the seat of our Greatest Treasure. Home indeed is where our hearts is.
“For where your treasure is, there your heart [your wishes, your desires; that on which your life centers] will be also.” (Matthew 6:21 AMP)
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for choosing me to be Your home here on earth. Thank You for allowing me to see Your beauty to behold that transforms me just by being consumed in Your presence as You dwell richly inside of me. Thank You, Holy Spirit, for always leading me in the way I should think, speak, go and do that I may give glory to the One Whom glory is due. Thank You, Jesus, for withholding nothing, not even Your own life. You made an impossibility a possibility for me to be Your home. Amen!
