Comparison kills who we are and what we have. The very moment we compare ourselves with others, it either takes us to be prideful for being better than others or it depresses us for seeing others better than ourselves, depriving us to see and appreciate what the Lord has in store for us and who He truly made us to be.
Take the journey of seeking Jesus for it is in knowing Him that we will come to know who we are, created according to His image and likeness. As He is, so are we in this world.
Get into His Word, for what is written about us will anchor you and I to the truth. It will prevent, protect and shield us from the lie of the accuser of the brethren. It is the confidence in our identity that establishes us to take authority and be in our rightful place in the kingdom of God.
Do you know that we lose our uniqueness and identity when we compare ourselves with others? It’s because it all boils down to pleasing everyone else around us instead of living for the One Who created us. When we live in the prison of other people’s opinion, we deprive ourselves from knowing who God says we are.
One powerful thing that drives us to comparison is simply the reality of being accepted. We want to belong. We want to be praised for what we’ve done. We want to be loved. We want to be THE ONE recognized. This is the cry of every heart. This is the default vacuum in ones life and the only antidote to this is the love of Christ. It is when we realize that we are accepted in the Beloved and that we are seen and loved just as we are that fills that void in our hearts. It is when we come to know without a shadow of a doubt that we belong to the family of God all because we have been bought at a steep price that no one else could afford. He gave us value that is matchless paid by the Blood of the Lamb of God. That’s how He made us worthy. It is unmerited. It isn’t by our works but by the finished work of Jesus Christ ALL BECAUSE OF HIS GREAT LOVE FOR US, making the apple of His eyes and His precious priced possession.
Always remember that the God of the universe created you and I uniquely. There is no one that will think, speak, sound, dance, sing, act, and fulfill our own very purpose just like you and I do. No one has our finger prints let alone our irises. Yes, when God formed and created us, He threw the mold right after. Just as there is NO ONE LIKE HIM, therefore being created according to His image and likeness, there is no one like you, and there is no one like me.
Our conquest is to discover who we are and why we are here on this earth. We have a God of purpose therefore you and I just didn’t pop up into this world for nothing and when we discover that, we will never want to be someone else.
I like what I read at one point in time. It says, “DON’T COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS. THERE IS NO COMPARISON BETWEEN THE SUN AND THE MOON. THEY SHINE WHEN IT’S THEIR TIME.”
I was watching an episode of America’s Got Talent one day and this particular person really did extremely well. Well, at least according to my standards. One thing I’ve discovered how opinionated this world is was when I read the comments below. I laughed because I was so surprised how in such wide variety people’s thoughts are as they were written. If you were the performer, I doubt it very much if you would like to go through each one of them.
A lot of times we are just too careless releasing words without even seriously thinking of its effect. I used to inquire of the Lord regarding our words and made me wonder like “how come when we decree and declare a thing it is not established, contrary to what You have written in Your word in Job 22:28” Could it be because when He will seriously take the words that profusely and carelessly come out of our mouths, I wonder how much chaos it would bring? But I believe that we are coming into a season when the Holy Spirit is so on the move, Who would bridle our tongues and control it as we yield to the Lordship of Jesus Christ in our lives so that His word will come to pass just as we believe and say it. It takes character and maturity to be trusted with this promise that whatever we decree it shall be established. With man, it is impossible. But with God, NOTHING is impossible.
Our words matter. Our words determine what is in our hearts. Take time to listen and when we don’t like the way we sound, why not start switching our thinking to things that are praise worthy.
“Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” (Philippians 4:8 NLT)
As a man thinks in his heart, so is he. Our thoughts are vital data inputs that produce the same output released from our mouths that create an atmosphere akin to it. Why not run back into the secret place of His presence? Why not go back into meditating into the word of how wonderfully and intricately we were created? It is in the renewing of our minds where our life transformation begins. When our thoughts are washed by the water of His Word, our minds are calibrated back to the plumb line of our identity in Him. And as we see ourselves how God sees us, our eyes get unveiled to see others the same way. When we do, comparison is washed away. Jealousy is dealt with. And most importantly the words that we speak will turn into words of acceptance, appreciation, celebration and love.
Be thankful for what the Lord has done, is doing and is about to do in your life. Thanksgiving and praise always maneuver us to enter the gates of His presence where we find ourselves comforted and sheltered just as we are and He will make His light in and through us SHINE the very way He desires us to shine, at the right place at the right time. And when the radiance of His light shines through us, it will SURELY make others shine brightly the very way He intends for them to shine that puts comparison to its end.
“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12 ESV
